Cardiology at the CHPG
What we do ...
NON-INVASIVE TESTS
Echocardiography (ECG)
This could be a single test lasting one minute, a 24h Holter, a 3 day or up to a week Holter ECG. This involves installing an external machine that monitors the heart for a given length of time. The ECG is them shown to a doctor for analysis.
Spiderflash and Vitaphone
These are devices that take an ECG at a specific time and on request only, usually used by patients who feel an event
they would like recording. This is also shown to a doctor for analysis.
Stress Test
This involves, in the presence of a doctor, pedalling on a stationary bike (or treadmill) whilst hooked up to heart monitors and a blood pressure unit. You heart rate is then elevated to a percentage of its maximum. This determines heart health and capacity.
Cardiac Echography and Echo Doppler
Visualisation of heart and vessel anatomy, as well as blood flow and potential blockages in the heart, in the abdominal aorta, limbs and neck.
Scans
-
Cardiac scan: non invasive test that visualises the morphology of the four chambers of the heart.
-
Coronary scan: non invasive test that visualises the morphology of the heart arteries and calcium deposits.
Myocardial Scintigraphy
Is a non invasive nuclear medicine procedure that evaluates the correct function of the heart muscle.
