Convention between the Princess Grace Hospital

              and the University of Pennsylvania

HSH Prince Albert II, the State Minister and the Health & Social Affairs Minister witnessed the signing of a Joint Venture between the Princess Grace Hospital and Penn Medicine.

The Penn Medicine and the Princess Grace Hospital of Monaco (CHPG) are amongst the world leaders in the treatment of Arrhythmia disease and Atrial Fibrillation. As a result of this joint venture, CHPG now has free access to this continued flow of Penn Medicine medical protocols and their research. With a research budget of some $300-400 million per year Penn Medicine is regarded as the leader in many medical protocols in the world. This joint venture will not only benefit the Monaco Community but residents from the surrounding area and throughout the European Community. This free exchange of information will allow the top teams on both sides to convene on difficult cases thus directly benefitting patients. Included within the convention are doctor exchanges between the two institutions, and to date several doctors from the CHPG have already spent time at Penn Medicine perfecting their training and expanding their medical knowledge. The signing of the joint venture is a further step in the evolution of the Monaco USA Arrhythmia Centre. This centre is now regarded as world class and at the forefront of this disease. Professor Saoudi, along with other Professors from CHPG and Penn Medicine are continuing to develop and keep at the forefront of the treatment of Atrial Fibrillation. The centre’s courses which take place every March in the Principality are initiated by Professor Saoudi and several Professors from CHPG and Penn Medicine, including other well-known international universities such as Harvard. This combined intellect enables advanced training courses to be given to cardiologists from all over the world. These courses have the full support of the government and are under the High Patronage of HSH Prince Albert II. The joint venture is the culmination of the relationship developed between Penn Medicine and the CHPG today and the enthusiastic efforts of HSH Prince Albert II, Government officials, the Minister of State – Mr Roger, the Health and Social Affairs Minister – Mr. Valeri, Professor Saoudi and his staff as well as board members, Danny Hill, Chris Levine, Mike Powers and John Hargreaves.

This great synergy has enabled this important project to be brought to fruition, culminating in this important joint venture agreement. A further reciprocal ceremony was attended by HSH Prince Albert II in October at Penn Medicine in order to further cement the joint venture between the Princess Grace Hospital and the University of Pennsylvania, which also happens to be the birthplace of his late Mother, Princess Grace.
